Why are we called ‘Lemon & Jinja?’
If you look at the ‘Meet the Team’ section, you will read Jess lived in Uganda for her teen years. Since then, her family have been involved in work there, through ServeDirect. When Jess moved back to England and set up the shop, she was looking for names for the business: there were the more obvious options including the words ‘Weigh’ ‘Earth’ ‘Planet’ etc. but we wanted to be different! Jess also wanted to link her time in Uganda with being back in England.
Jinja is the name of a town in Uganda. It is said to be where the source of the River Nile is. It’s a beautiful riverside town with white water rafting and bunjee jumping etc. Using the spelling Jinja, Jess then linked Uganda into a well-known ‘phrase’ Lemon & Ginger – instead changing it to Lemon & Jinja!
Jinja, and Uganda in general, is beautiful. All the images below are of the River Nile in Jinja.
